This page explains the safety information for the chemical-adjacent items in our kits, and for the paint you may buy locally to use with our tools. It also tells you how to get a full Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for any specific product. It is not a substitute for the SDS or the safety instructions printed on the actual product packaging.
1. Items in our kits that contain chemicals
| Kit | Chemical-containing items | Hazard class | VOC content |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wallpaper Removal Kit (B-03) | Wallpaper-paste loosening solution (small spray bottle, water-based) | Non-classified for transport · Skin/eye irritant on prolonged contact | <10 g/L |
| Color Sample Tester Kit (B-04) | 16 small water-based acrylic paint samples | Non-classified · Skin contact may cause mild irritation | <30 g/L (low-VOC) |
| Renter Refresh Kit (B-08) | Adhesive on hooks and decals (acrylic-based, pre-applied) | Non-classified | n/a (cured) |
None of the items we ship are classified as flammable, toxic, corrosive or otherwise dangerous goods (UN regulations / EU CLP). All paints we sell as samples are water-based and low-VOC.
2. Safety Data Sheets
For an item-specific SDS in French or English, email support@batizz.com with the kit name and item. We respond within 1 business day.
3. Ventilation
Always work with windows open. If the room has no window, run a fan toward a doorway and take breaks every 30 minutes. The “fresh paint” smell is solvent evaporating — minimise the time you breathe it.
4. Children, pets, vulnerable users
Keep all paint, samples, remover and tools out of reach of children under 12 and away from pets. The acrylic-pigment samples in our Color Sample Tester Kit are non-toxic on skin but can stain clothes and walls and should not be ingested.
People with chronic respiratory conditions (asthma, COPD), pregnant women in the first trimester, and people with chemical sensitivities should consult a healthcare provider before using any paint or remover product, including ours.
5. Personal protection
- Gloves: wear the nitrile gloves included in your kit.
- Eye protection: included in our Wallpaper Removal Kit (steam splashes). Wear them.
- Long sleeves and old clothing: paint and pigment stain.
- Respirator: not required for water-based, low-VOC paint in a well-ventilated room. Wear an FFP2 / N95 mask if sanding lead-based paint (homes built before 1978).
6. First aid
- Skin contact: rinse with cool soapy water for 5 minutes. If irritation persists, see a doctor.
- Eye contact: rinse with cold running water for 15 minutes. See a doctor.
- Inhaled and feeling dizzy: move to fresh air. If symptoms persist, see a doctor.
- Swallowed: do not induce vomiting. Drink water. Call your poison control immediately:
- France: Centre Antipoison +33 1 40 05 48 48 (24/7)
- UK: NHS 111
- US: 1-800-222-1222 (Poison Help)
- EU: 112 (general emergency)
7. Paint you buy locally
Always choose water-based (acrylic, latex) interior paint labelled “low-VOC” or “zero-VOC” where possible. EU paints sold for indoor use must comply with Directive 2004/42/EC limits (≤ 30 g/L for matt water-based wall paint). Read the SDS that comes with your paint can — even brand-name paints can contain biocides, glycols, and trace solvents.
8. Disposal
Leftover paint and remover solution must never be poured down a drain, sink or toilet. They contaminate the water supply and may be illegal under local environmental law.
- Solidify small quantities (under 1L) with cat litter or sawdust in a cardboard box, let cure 24–48 hours, then bin in regular household waste.
- For larger quantities and for solvent-based or oil-based paint: take to your local hazardous-waste drop-off (déchetterie in France, household hazardous-waste centre in US/UK/CA/AU).
- Empty paint cans (visible-dry) can usually go in metal recycling.
9. Damaged products on arrival
If a chemical-containing item arrives leaking, broken, or visibly damaged, do not handle it without gloves and ventilation. Photograph it and email support@batizz.com immediately. We will arrange safe disposal and replacement.
